A statue honoring the renowned poet, prose writer, publicist, and translator Zholon Mamytov has been unveiled in Osh city. The monument was erected in the “Zholon Mamytov” park located in the Ak-Tilek microdistrict. The unveiling ceremony, held today, May 28, was attended by prominent figures including State Secretary Marat Imankulov, Presidential Representative in Osh Region Elchibek Zhantaev, Osh Mayor Zhenishbek Toktorbaev, People’s Artist Tugolbai Kazakov, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, and the poet’s widow, Kyrgyz People’s Writer Mendi Mamazairova.
Coinciding with the statue’s unveiling, Osh city also launched the international poetry festival “Green World,” commemorating the 85th anniversary of Zholon Mamytov. The festival, scheduled for May 28-30, brings together young poets from Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Zholon Mamytov was born in 1940 in the village of Toleykon in the Kara-Suu district of Osh region. His literary journey began in 1954 with the publication of his first poem in the regional newspaper Lenin Zholy. His work later appeared in national newspapers, magazines, and literary collections. Mamytov passed away at the age of 48.
