OshSU Starts a Collaboration with Chinese Silk Designer Fan Yanyan

A delegation led by the Chinese silk designer and founder of the brand “Fan Yanyan”, renowned art designer Fan Yanyan, has arrived at Osh State University. The delegation includes notable designers such as Li Feng, Gun Chen, director, and writer Zhou Xin, as well as the adviser to the Minister of Education and Science, director of the Confucius Institute under Bishkek State University Gulzat Isamatova, and lecturer Meiizkan Kadyrova.

Their visit marks the first acquaintance with the Kyrgyz-Chinese and artistic faculties of the educational institution. At the main campus of OshSU, they witnessed art exhibitions by the faculty members of the Arts Faculty. Additionally, Osh State University Rector Kudayberdi Kozhobekov held an official meeting with the heads of departments and lecturers of the Faculty of Fine Arts. During the meeting, Fan Yanyan expressed gratitude for the invitation from the rector of OshSU, expressing interest in implementing joint projects in the field of arts and culture, linking Kyrgyzstan and China with OshSU, as well as cooperation in this sphere and exchange of expertise among specialists.

“Every year in October, the “Great Silk Road” exhibition is held. When I came to Kyrgyzstan, I met and interacted with the organizers of the exhibition, and this year it was decided to reflect the culture and art of Central Asia in part of the exhibition. This will be a wonderful opportunity for our colleagues who have reflected the experience and culture of Kyrgyzstan in their works. We invite OshSU to participate in the exhibition. In Dunhuang, located in northwest China, there is also a 400 m2 museum where my personal works are exhibited. Dunhuang is a historical city attracting many tourists. I believe this will become a platform for spreading Kyrgyz art and culture. The plans include promoting the works of the best masters of Kyrgyzstan in China, as well as introducing Chinese traditional culture to Central Asia”, said Fan Yanyan.

During the meeting, the implementation of joint projects, the creation of an association of craftsmen from China and Central Asian countries, and the projects for opening the “Silk Road” workshop were discussed. The university rector noted that such contacts play a significant role in guiding OshSU towards a fourth-generation university.

For the guests, a cultural event was organized, during which a fashion exhibition of Kyrgyz national costumes and stylized modern costumes took place. In the second half of the day, the guests familiarized themselves with the Industrial-Pedagogical College of OshSU and the Educational-Production Complex.

Chinese silk designer Fan Yanyan is the first artist to depict Chinese culture and the Great Silk Road. In May 2023, the “Fan Yanyan Art Center” met with the First Lady of Kyrgyzstan, Aigul Japarova, at the Central Asian Summit held in Xi’an. Fan Yanyan’s Silk Series was chosen as the official VIP gift of the Central Asian Summit.

In February of this year, as part of the visit of the Kyrgyz delegation to the People’s Republic of China, Minister of Education and Science Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva met with the Chairwoman of the Women’s Federation of Shaanxi Province, Li Qing, and art designer Fan Yanyan. The parties discussed the participation of higher education institutions of both countries in the development of the creative industry.
