An international scientific conference dedicated to the 1010th anniversary of the great thinker, poet, and statesman Yusuf Balasaguni was held at Osh State University.
The conference, titled “Ancient Manuscripts in the Development of Central Asian Peoples: Language, Literature, and Culture,” discussed Balasaguni’s place in world cultural heritage, as well as the educational and historical significance of his work Kutadgu Bilig. Scholars and official representatives from neighboring countries took part in the event.
Rector of the university, Kudayberdi Kozhobekov, noted that the anniversary contributes greatly to promoting national spiritual heritage and educating the younger generation in moral values. The Consuls General of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in Osh, Karibay Mukhtar uulu and Zafar Ahmedov, also delivered speeches, emphasizing that Balasaguni’s works remain relevant today, especially for youth education.
During the conference, more than 20 scientific papers were presented, creating a platform for academic exchange. The event was organized on the initiative of the Uzbek Language and Culture Center of the university and the branch of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
According to historical sources, Yusuf Balasaguni was born around 1015–1016 during the Karakhanid era in the city of Balasagun, near present-day Tokmok. Detailed information about his life has not been fully preserved. The great thinker passed away in 1075 at the age of 55.
