On February 10, Osh State University students, along with Abdijapar Akkulov, Director of the Consultative Center for Mountain Ecosystem Preservation and “Green” Innovation, and Associate Professor Elmurat Obdunov, participated in a seminar as part of the regional project “Climate-Resilient Landscapes of Central Asia.”

The seminar focused on the conservation of priority mountain pastures, forests, and meadows in Kyrgyzstan. Topics also included the development of degraded lands, efficient water resource use, agroforestry, and land reclamation initiatives conducted through Osh State University projects. Participants received science-based recommendations on integrating alternative agricultural practices into state programs.

“Climate change is a concern for every country and region worldwide. Its threats and risks are particularly serious for Central Asia, including mountainous Kyrgyzstan, surrounded by vast deserts. In this context, preserving mountain ecosystems, responsibly managing land, plant, and water resources, adapting to climate change, and creating sustainable landscapes are increasingly important,” said Abdijapar Akkulov.

Kubanichbek Mamedov, Head of the Department of Agrarian Development of the Kara-Suu District, emphasized that joint research and production projects with Osh State University would benefit local authorities, village governments, and private farms.

The event was organized by the Green Climate Fund in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
