Osh State University presented the results of a one-year scientific project on the restoration of soil cover in landslide-prone areas and the protection of mountain ecosystems under climate change conditions.
The project is being implemented by the Consulting Center for Mountain Ecosystem Conservation and “Green” Innovations. For the first time in Kyrgyzstan, the Center is conducting large-scale research in the fields of bioremediation of degraded soils and agroforestry.
Within the framework of the project, landslide zones in the south of the country were studied, and their socio-economic, environmental, and psychological impacts on local communities and the development of the region were assessed. Data were collected on soil degradation and its effects on natural resources.
The reporting meeting was attended by the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation of Osh State University, Elzarbek Esharov, and representatives of the Institute of Natural Sciences, Physical Education, Tourism and Agricultural Technologies. The project leader, Abdizhapar Akkulov, emphasized the necessity of bioremediation of landslide areas in the context of climate change and presented scientific approaches applied in this field. The discussion also addressed the expansion of agroforestry, climate change adaptation, and the development of state-level programs in these areas.
At the end of the meeting, the project's work directions for 2026 were identified and preparations for scientific publications were discussed. In addition, annual plans for the Kurbu-Tash scientific-production complex and the mountain nursery were approved. Equipment and material procurement issues were also reviewed.
