On the 225th Anniversary of Alymbek Datka

On September 26, Osh State University held a scientific-practical conference titled “Alymbek Datka: His Place in History and Legacy.” Historians, researchers, lecturers, graduate and postgraduate students, and scholars from educational institutions in the Czech Republic, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan participated in the forum. The event was organized to commemorate the 225th anniversary of Alymbek Datka’s birth.

In the university foyer, participants visited the photo exhibition “Altai Preserving Traditions,” created based on materials from the international ethnographic expeditions “Great Altai.” The exhibition showcased the work of an expedition organized by Altai State University and scholars from Osh State University in the Onguday, Ulagan, and Kosh-Agach districts of Altai.

Speakers at the conference included Abylbek Asankanov, Director of the Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnology named after Begimaly Zhamgyrchinov of the National Academy of Sciences; Ivan Nazarov, Director of the Institute of History and International Relations of Altai State University; public figure Baltagul Nurunbetov; and Jumadil Adilbaev, Associate Professor of the Department of General History and History Teaching Methods at Osh State University. They highlighted the relevance of the conference and discussed the role, place, and significance of Alymbek Datka in Kyrgyz history and statehood.

During the plenary and sectional sessions, participants discussed the socio-political situation in Central Asia in the 19th century and the state of Kyrgyz society, Alymbek Datka’s political activities, the role of women in Kyrgyz society, the historical phenomenon of Kurmanjan Datka, and the use of historical figures’ legacies in education and upbringing.

The event was organized by the Historical and Legal Institute of Osh State University.
