On February 21, Osh State University hosted a round table dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Abylabek Asankanov. The event brought together faculty members, students, and scholars from OshSU and Kyrgyz-Uzbek International University.
During the discussion, researchers presented reports highlighting Asankanov’s significant contributions to historical sciences. Attendees praised his organizational skills, dedication, and human qualities, emphasizing his role in establishing and advancing ethnosociology in the country. His extensive research on Kyrgyz history, ethnography, culture, ethnogenesis, ethnic history, material and spiritual heritage, as well as family and kinship structures among Kyrgyz communities abroad, was also acknowledged.
Currently, Abylabek Asankanov serves as the director of the Begimaaly Dzhamgerchinov Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnology. A two-time recipient of the State Prize of Kyrgyzstan in Science and Technology and an Honored Scientist of the country, he has authored over 200 scientific publications, including 15 monographs, 10 textbooks, and teaching materials. He is also the editor-in-chief of the encyclopedia History of Kyrgyzstan, with his works published in Turkish, Russian, English, and Chinese.
