On September 4, OshSU scholars visited Osh Forestry to learn about its activities.

During the meeting, Professor Bakytbek Shamshiev, Associate Professors Elmurat Obdunov, Venera Ermatova and Abdyjapar Akkulov, and Director of Osh Forestry Talant Borkoshov discussed the development of forestry, the introduction of new methods, and the improvement of the institution’s material and technical facilities.

The scholars also visited the Besh-Konush nursery and familiarized themselves with its work. They discussed increasing the number and area of nurseries and expanding the range of seedlings grown for forest restoration.

The specialists noted that climate change and the intensification of landslide processes are affecting forest ecosystems. In these conditions, they emphasized the importance of restoring degraded lands and introducing modern methods in forestry. The development of ecotourism was also discussed as a way to make more effective use of state forest fund areas. It was noted that this approach could both contribute to nature conservation and create new economic opportunities for local communities.

The meeting concluded with agreements to continue cooperation in applying research findings in practice, exchanging experience, and conserving forest ecosystems.

The event was organized as part of a research project funded by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation and implemented by the OshSU Consulting Center for Mountain Ecosystem Conservation and Green Innovations.
