On October 20, Osh State University is hosting a scientific and practical conference entitled “Exemplary Life,” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding poet, writer, translator, and public figure Sooronbay Zhusuev.
The event was attended by poets, writers, literary scholars, teachers, and students from Osh. During the event, a video was shown highlighting the life, creative legacy, and contributions of Sooronbay Zhusuev to Kyrgyz poetry, followed by a staged scene from the poet's novel Kurmanzhan Datka.
The conference was opened by Elzar Esharov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at Osh State University. He noted that Zhusuev is a national hero and national poet of the Kyrgyz people, a recipient of the Order of Manas III degree, a laureate of the Toktogul State Prize, an outstanding graduate of Osh State University, and an honorary professor. He emphasized that Zhusuev’s works, left for future generations, remain an eternal example. At the plenary session, Professor Gulina Zhamgyrchieva and senior lecturer Medergul Tabaldieva gave presentations on Sooronbay Zhusuev’s place in literature and his contribution to poetry. The event also featured artistic readings of the poet's works and musical performances.
The second part of the conference will continue with sessions devoted to current issues in contemporary Kyrgyz literary studies and literary criticism, methods of teaching the Kyrgyz language and literature using new technologies, and current topics in Kyrgyz linguistics.
According to the organizers, the event aims to provide a scientific analysis of Sooronbay Zhusuev’s work and introduce it to the younger generation.
People’s poet Sooronbay Zhusuev passed away on February 4, 2016, at the age of 91. He published more than 30 books, 14 of which were in Russian. His works have also been translated into Kazakh, Uzbek, Ukrainian, and Azerbaijani. Additionally, he translated world classics such as Shakespeare, Pushkin, Lermontov, Mayakovsky, Yesenin, Omar Khayyam, and Abai into Kyrgyz. More than 70 songs based on Sooronbay Zhusuev’s poems have been composed by musicians including Rysbai Abdykadyrov, Asylbek Ozubekov, and Isradin Amanbayev.
