Mamat Kulmatov, an 88-year-old student at Osh State University, has successfully completed his studies at the Faculty of Medicine. He was enrolled in the evening program, specializing in pharmacy. Kulmatov shared that if his health permits, he intends to pursue residency training. He is also actively studying traditional medicine.

It’s never too late to learn. Everyone should strive for knowledge, regardless of age,” he emphasized.

Kulmatov began his medical education journey at the age of 76 when he entered Aravan Medical College and graduated three years later at 79. Earlier in life, he had studied at an agricultural technical school and became a certified agronomist, dedicating many years to agricultural work and experimenting with new seed varieties.

He first enrolled at Osh State University in 1959 to study biochemistry, but personal hardships forced him to pause his academic pursuits. The loss of his mother to illness deeply affected him and inspired his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.

Together with his wife, Kulmatov raised five children—four daughters and a son—and their family now includes over 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

It is worth noting that Osh State University supported Kulmatov’s educational journey by waiving his tuition fees, offering him accommodation in the dormitory, and ensuring all necessary conditions for his studies were met.
