On October 26, French Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nicolas Fayet visited Osh State University. He met with Rector Kudayberdi Kozhobekov to discuss cooperation in education, science, and culture. At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding.
The ambassador noted that this was his fifth visit to Osh State University and described the institution as an important partner for France. “We are ready to continue strengthening our ties,” he said.
Kudayberdi Kozhobekov emphasized that the university attaches particular importance to developing international cooperation. According to him, expanding partnerships with French higher education institutions will create new opportunities for student academic mobility, faculty exchange, and joint research and educational projects.
The meeting covered cooperation with the Universities of Caen and Poitiers, expanding opportunities for students to study there, environmental protection, and joint archaeology projects. Particular attention was also paid to the development of French language teaching. The ambassador proposed offering French as a language option from the first year in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and introducing it for economics students as well. He noted that knowledge of French opens up new opportunities in diplomacy, business, and tourism.
The parties also discussed revitalizing the Alexandre Dumas French Center, established jointly with Osh State University. Proposals included recruiting a French language specialist, expanding the center’s activities, and providing city residents with opportunities to learn the language. The French side expressed its readiness to help find a suitable specialist.
In addition, the parties discussed encouraging students to study in France, cooperating with Campus France, and organizing information sessions. They also considered jointly holding Francophone events and a European Film Week.
During his visit, Nicolas Fayet will also meet with university faculty members and students to discuss opportunities to learn French and pursue studies at French higher education institutions.
