OshSU Hosts an International Conference Commemorating the 85th Anniversary of Karimova

An international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Professor Burul Karimova, winner of the Medal of Honor, Honored Education Worker of the Kyrgyz Republic, “Current issues of sustainable development and biodiversity” was held at Osh State University.

The conference was attended by representatives of the authorized representative office of the government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Osh region, representatives of the Osh mayor’s office, scientists from the UK, Bulgaria, Poland, Russia via online communication, scientists from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, educational institutions, teaching staff, graduate students, undergraduates and Karimova’s family.

The conference was opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of OshSU Nurlan Omurov. He noted that the Karimova’s life path, experience and public leadership activities are an example for both older and younger people.

During the conference, guests and scientists spoke about the valuable scientific research and human qualities of Burul Karimova.

At the plenary session there were presentations and discussions on the areas of biological diversity, the role of sustainable development in solving socio-economic and environmental problems, agriculture and sustainable development, promoting dialogue on mountains and climate change within the UN, and modern educational technologies in human development.

Professor Burul Karimova is the first female scientist in the field of biology in Kyrgyzstan to receive a doctorate. She held leadership positions at both Osh State University and Osh Technical University, and made a special contribution to the growth and development of educational institutions. Also she was a deputy of the Osh City Council of the 3rd convocation.

The scientist, who was destined to enter OshSU, was distinguished by wisdom, intelligence and generosity and was awarded the title of great lecturer. Burul Karimova died in 2020 at the age of 81.
