On May 14, a cooperation agreement was signed between Osh State University and the Association of Mediators of the Turkic World. The agreement was signed by Rector Kudayberdi Kozhobekov and the association’s president Yakup Erikel.
During the meeting, the parties discussed mediation, conflictology, academic cooperation, and exchange of experience.
Within the framework of the agreement, the sides plan to implement joint projects in mediation, train specialists, conduct scientific research, and organize seminars, training sessions, and cultural events.
“Our goal is to promote the culture of mediation across the Turkic world. We are currently cooperating with several universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. Over the next ten years, we aim to establish partnerships with 100 universities and train more than 10,000 mediators. This will make a significant contribution to strengthening social harmony and mutual understanding,” said Yakup Erikel.
At the end of the meeting, he presented the rector with a book on mediation published in four languages.
In the second half of the day, the delegation will visit the Institute of Oriental Studies of Osh State University to learn about the activities of the Turkish Language Center and the Conflictology program. They will also deliver a guest lecture for students and faculty members.
A mediator is a neutral specialist who helps resolve disputes between parties through negotiation without taking the matter to court. In Kyrgyzstan, the Law “On Mediation” was adopted in 2017. In Türkiye, the mediation system has been developing since 2011, and a mandatory mediation mechanism has been operating since 2018.
