Osh State University is implementing a new scientific project to preserve and propagate decorative and medicinal plants. Led by Associate Professor Bolot Karimov, a research team including Aynazik Boronbaeva, Aida Dursunbaeva, and Jazgul Abdyrahmanova studies natural ecosystems along the Gulcho River in Alay District, Osh region.

The project aims to assess the current state of local plants, protect endangered species, and develop cultivation methods in the university’s botanical garden, transforming it into a modern educational-scientific site. An atlas of introduced plants will also be prepared, and a reserve fund of rare plants established.

Research began in September 2024 and will continue until September 2026, including field expeditions and laboratory studies on growth, seed quality, and adaptability. Innovative cultivation methods, ecological features, and potential biotechnological improvements of medicinal properties are being explored. The project also has economic and social significance, creating jobs and increasing decorative plants for green construction and sale.
