The role of communication in inter-cultural interaction

On 25th of November 2017, at the FWL&C there was held the extracurricular activity devoted to “The role of communication in inter-cultural interaction”, by the teacher the chair of English grammar and phonetics Kasymova D.T.

The extracurricular activity had cognitive, value and practical learning outcomes: what is visible and hidden features of a person, revealing features which are general for different cultures, respecting and adopting rules of communication with representatives from other cultures.

During the lesson students did the task “Cultural iceberg” discussing features of a person and as a result they recognized that only visible features(race ,age ,sex) are not enough to give a full characteristic to a person, comparing it with an iceberg in the ocean. As a continuation of this activity Students were divided into 3 groups and made a presentation on the theme “Five rules of successful communication”, getting acquainted with new terms as “multi (poly) culture, cultural interaction- through the lecture “Culture and communication”. After watching the video film “Great silk road”, students have known that the silk road made a great influence on establishing a political, economical and cultural position of the countries. So they came to the conclusion that inter- action and inter- enriching of cultures is the main factor in our modern society.
