A delegation led by Xing Guangcheng from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing visited Osh State University on September 11.

The delegation was received by Vice Rector for External Relations Kursantbek Attokurov. The meeting focused on the university’s activities, educational programs, and international cooperation.

The delegation then visited the Institute of Oriental Studies and learned about its activities and research areas. Institute Director Joldoshbek Botonoev provided information on Kyrgyz-Chinese relations, the outcomes of the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the historical and cultural heritage of Turkic civilisation. The participants also exchanged views on the current state and future prospects of Kyrgyz-Chinese relations.

The delegation also visited the Institute of Oriental Studies’ “Oriental Manuscripts and Heritage” collection and reviewed its materials. Discussions with the collection’s head, Baibolot Abitov, focused on conducting joint research, exchanging experience, and expanding cooperation. At the end of the meeting, Joldoshbek Botonoev presented members of the delegation with his scholarly work.

Currently, about 200 students at the Institute of Oriental Studies study the Chinese language, culture, history, economy, and China’s domestic and foreign policy. Four of them are currently studying in Qingdao under an academic mobility program.

The institute also has a Chinese Language and Culture Center. The center provides students with opportunities to study the Chinese language and culture and carries out activities aimed at developing educational and cultural ties between Kyrgyzstan and China.
