On December 12, in Bishkek, poet Melis Mamatjanov, Head of the Rector’s Office at Osh State University, was awarded the prestigious Alykul Osmonov Prize in recognition of his poetry collection “World Without an Address.”
The award was presented as part of the celebrations marking National Literature Day.
The ceremony was held at the National History Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic and brought together high-ranking government officials, cultural leaders, and representatives of the literary community. Among the distinguished guests were Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov, Minister of Culture Mirbek Mamatzhanov, and Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Kyrgyzstan Kanybek Imanaliev.
The Alykul Osmonov Prize is awarded annually to authors whose works make a significant contribution to the development of national literature, poetic translation, and literary research. Winners are selected by a special committee and receive diplomas and monetary awards.
Melis Mamatjanov is a well-known poet and literary figure, a laureate of the Zairbek Azhimatov Prize, and the recipient of the “Best Poet of the Year” title. He has also been honored with a medal from the international organization TURKSOY for his contribution to the culture of the Turkic world. His published poetry collections include “Apakemdin Almasy” (An apple from my mother) and “Dareksiz Duino” (World Without an Address).
