OshSU's Bioreclamation Experience Attracts International Interest

The agroforestry and bioreclamation work carried out by researchers from Osh State University in the landslide-affected area of Kurbu-Tash village, Uzgen district, has attracted growing interest from international experts. The area was buried by a landslide in 2017.

This time, Jalal Ud Din, a young researcher from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Bahria University (Pakistan), visited the site as part of a scientific mission. He had previously visited Kurbu-Tash and become familiar with the research conducted by OshSU scientists. During this visit, he presented geodetic, topographic, and cartographic materials prepared using satellite data collected over the past ten years. The materials compare the condition of the area before and after the landslide.

As part of the visit, Jalal Ud Din and specialists from Osh State University's Center for Mountain Ecosystem Conservation and Green Innovation Consulting carried out GPS-based coordinate mapping across a bioreclamation site covering approximately 100 hectares. The collected data will be processed using specialized computer software, enabling researchers to scientifically assess environmental changes in the area.

According to the researchers, the findings of this study could serve as a foundation for developing a national bioreclamation program in Kyrgyzstan, particularly for restoring landslide-affected areas in the southern regions of the country.
