On October 20, a presentation of the new poetry collection World Without an Address by Kyrgyz poet and Head of the Rector’s Office of Osh State University, Melis Mamatzhanov, was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The event brought together prominent literary figures and members of the academic community. Kanat Auyesbay, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, highlighted Mamatzhanov’s contribution to literature, noting “the poet’s vibrant individuality that transcends national boundaries and resonates with diverse audiences.”
In his remarks, Melis Mamatzhanov expressed gratitude to the host university for organizing the event. He shared his views on the importance of literature in shaping national identity and promoting cultural diplomacy.
Guests were introduced to the poet’s creative world and to translations of his works into Kazakh. Mamatzhanov was recognized as one of the leading poets of his generation, with special emphasis placed on his numerous literary awards and active public engagement. He received congratulations from Cholpon Isanova, Deputy Consul General of Kyrgyzstan in Almaty; Manas Tashybekov, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Ethnocultural Association “Muras”; poet and translator Almat Isadil; and poet Muratkhan Shokan, Director of the “World of Literature” Center and Director of the “Personality – Friendship” Public Foundation.
The collection was published in four languages - Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Turkish, and Uzbek. The foreword was written by Sultan Raev, People’s Writer of the Kyrgyz Republic and Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY). The next presentation of the book will take place on November 25 at the National Library in Tashkent.
The event was organized by the Faculty of Journalism and the Department of Printing, Editing, and Design Arts of Osh State University in cooperation with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
Melis Mamatzhanov, 33, was born in the village of Jany-Aryk in the Kara-Suu District of Osh Region. He is the winner of the national “Besh Akyn” (5 Poets) project organized by TURKSOY and a recipient of the “Zhusup Balasagyn” badge. He also won first place in the “Zhash Tolkun” (A New Wave) competition of the Ch. Tursunbekov Foundation. He is a laureate of the Zairbek Azhymatov Prize, “Best Poet of the Year,” and holder of a TURKSOY medal for his contribution to Turkic world culture. His first poetry book, Apakemdin Almasy (My mother's apple), was published in 2014. "World Without an Address" is his second collection.
