The history of Osh State University


      The history of Osh State University dates from 1939 as Osh Teachers Institute. This Institute included faculties of History and Philology, Physics and Mathematics, and Geography. It was two years study. Students who graduated from pedagogical colleges could enter it. In 1941 on the 22nd of June Great Civil War began and many teachers and students went to the war. State University and Pedagogical Institute moved from Rostov to Osh In September, 1942. Rostov University and Institute were joined to one University, which included 9 professors, 25 docents, more than 30 teachers, assistants and laboratory assistants. The building of Teacher’s Institute and two schools with 18 classrooms were given to Rostov University which was evacuated with decree of Party and Soviet authority. Kyrgyz government was ordered to open Teacher’s Institute again. Teacher’s Institute began their work with 116 students’ contingents by two national and several groups on the 21st of September, 1944. Rostov University moved to its country on the 2nd of May, 1944. Teacher’s Institute which included “Language and literature”, “Physics and mathematics”, “Biology”, “Foreign languages” and “Physical training” faculties was renamed into Osh Pedagogical Institute in 1951 on the 1st of August. Teacher’s Institute became Osh State Pedagogical Institute according to USSR’s Minister of Education’s 188th decree. Many well-known people of our Republic took active part in organizing and developing this institute. Especially Rectors’ roles were great. They are: Tabaldiev Raimbek Jumabaev (the first rector of OSPI), Shamginov Kizim Davletovich, (graduated from Osh State Pedagogical Institute in 1945, the candidate of physical-mathematial sciences), Kamalov Nazyrhan Kamalovich, he was a teacher of Philosophy, and he graduated from Marxism-Leninism Institute in Tashkent in 1939, he was the 2nd degree Chevalier of Red Star and Civil War. Svetlisskiy Georgiy Yakovlevich was the head of Zoology Chair, docent, his nation was Russian, and he graduated from Voronej University in 1935. Tursunova Darygul was the docent of Russian Philology and Literature Chair, Kazakh girl; she graduated from Chkalov Pedagogical Institute in 1939, the cavalier of medal “for hard work.”
      OSPI began its work with 5 faculties in 1960: Physics-mathematics, Natural History and Geography, History and Philology, Music and Pedagogy, and Foreign languages. Our high educational Institution directors and rectors were: the candidate of Physical and Mathematical sciences, docent Polovicov Fedor Iosifovich (1953-1955 years); the candidate of Historical sciences, docent Alymkan Omuraliev (1955- 1960 years); Eshmambetov Bakyt Eshmambetovich ( 1960-1964 years); the candidate of Physical and Mathematial sciences Aitmurzaev Tashmurza (1965 -67 years); the candidate of Biological Sciences, docent Botbaeva Mira Mahmudovna ( 1967 – 73years); the candidate of Economic Sciences is Kuluev Raimkul (1973-77); the candidate of Philosophy, docent Jumagulov Sulaiman (1977 – 86 years); the candidate of Philosophy Anarbaev Arap (1986-92 years); the candidate of History, docent Beshimov Bakyt Jolchubekovich (1992-98); Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Murzubraimov Bectemir Murzubraimovich in 1998-2004; Doctor of Technical Sciences Orozbecov Muktar Orozbekovich in 2005-2010. At present the Rector of Osh State University is Doctor of Philology, Professor Isakov Kanybek Abduvasitovich.
      At present the moto of Osh State University is “It is time to work hard and honestly for Kyrgyzstan”.
