Osh State University was founded in 1939 as the Osh Pedagogical Institute, and in 1951 by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR it was renamed the Osh Pedagogical Institute, and our faculty was renamed Physics and Mathematics. The first dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was Fedor Iosifovich Polovikov, a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, and associate professor, who headed the faculty from 1951 to 1953. From 1951 to 1955, 23 students of the Faculty of  Mathematics and 18 students of the Faculty of Physics became the first graduates of the faculty. 

            From 1953  to 1956, the Faculty of  Physics and Mathematics was headed by Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Shamgunov Kizim Davletovich, who was also the head of the Department of Mathematics. In 1956, 100 students were admitted to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, and 64 students graduated from this faculty (41 mathematicians and 23 physicists).

  Faculty Leadership

            Since November 30, 2018, the Dean of the Faculty of the Mathematics and Information Technologies, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Ulanbek Adakhimzhanovich Sopuev has been successfully working. There are  8 chairs for 14 profiles, and 7 master's programs in 8 departments, graduated highly qualified specialists in accordance with modern requirements and successfully passed all directions from the IAAR International Accreditation Agency, and received certificates for 5 years.

            Today, the faculty strives to strengthen the material and technical base, introduce new technologies to improve the quality of teaching, improve the quality of the teaching staff, and achieve the practical application of research and competent training of specialists. We work under the slogan “we work for the sake of our people and land”.

            Nowadays, there are 95 teachers working at 8 departments of the faculty, including 7 doctors of sciences, professors, 1 corresponding member of KRNAS and 38 candidates of sciences and associate professors, 26 senior teachers, 28 teachers.

            There are 2144 students at the faculty, including 1407 full-time students and 637 evening students also 557 students study on a budget system, and 1488 students study on a contract system. Today 396 best students study at the faculty.

            The mission of the faculty - is to train the leaders of tomorrow, highly qualified personnel in the field of information technologies and systems, economics, and mathematics, which will contribute to the overall development of the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

            The goal of the faculty - is to educate and train scientific, pedagogical, and industrial personnel with high intellectual potential, striving to ensure the development of Kyrgyzstan in the field of mathematics, computer science, applied mathematics, information technology, and economics by ensuring the quality of education with a competence-based approach.

            The function of the faculty - is to become a mentor who prepares a decent workforce capable of competing nationally and internationally.
