The history of the Faculty of World Languages and Cultures begins as part of the Osh Pedagogical Institute under the name “Faculty of Foreign Languages”. In 1951-1992, there was an independent faculty that trained specialists in English and German, in 1992-1997 - the Department of Foreign Languages as part of the Faculty of Slavic-Germanic Philology, since 1997 - the Faculty of World Languages. By the decision of Osh State University Academic Council from August 30, 2011, it was again renamed into the Faculty of Foreign Languages, and since December 2016 - into the Faculty of World Languages and Cultures.

Over the years, the faculty was headed by well-known scientists and teachers of the republic, among them L.D. Polevodnyi (1951-1957), V.T. Kovalchuk (March-August 1957), M.E. Pan (1957-1984), G.W. Satina, S.A. Abdugulov, K.Zh. Zhumabaev, N.K. Salakhitdinova, A.K. Kulnazarov (1996-1998), Sh.V. Marash-Ogly (1998-2004), S.Sh. Kalygulova (2004-2010), A.A. Anarbaev (2010-2011), S.Sh. Kalygulova (2011-2021). Currently, the dean of the Faculty of World Languages and Cultures is Sagyndykova Rakhat Zhumabaevna, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor.

The faculty has a rich seventy-year experience in training highly qualified specialists in foreign languages. The Faculty of World Languages and Cultures prepares teachers and translators from English, German, French. Graduates of the faculty, along with mastering two foreign languages, methods of teaching a foreign language, theory and practice of international negotiations, can work in the education system, economics and other spheres.

The mission of the Faculty of World Languages and Cultures is to meet the needs of young people who want to learn, to educate modern professionals who master foreign languages and aware of the culture and traditions of the language they are learning, international communication, and people who can feel responsibility before the community.

The teaching staff, whose scientific level and work experience meet the requirements of modern education, successfully works in 6 departments:

• English Grammar and Phonetics;

• Methods of Teaching English;

• American Studies and Translation;

• Practical Course of English;

• Romano-Germanic Philology;

• German.

The faculty actively cooperates with the embassies of the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany in the Kyrgyz Republic, international organizations such as Tempus, Axels, DAAD, organizes various seminars and conferences. Currently, the faculty maintains close ties with more than 50 foreign educational institutions and participates in various international programs.
